The annual day to celebrate beer, Britain’s national alcoholic drink. Why June 15th?
Because it’s the date Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. Article 35 of the charter reads:
‘Let there be throughout our kingdom a single measure for wine and a single measure for ale and a single measure for corn, namely the London quarter.’
Once again Beer Day Britain is working with the national beer organisation ‘There’s a Beer For That’ to extend Beer Day Britain into a long weekend called ‘Say Cheers To Beer’ staring on June 15th and ending on Father’s Day June 17th.
Pubs, brewers, retailers across the land will be hosting a variety of beer related events in their pubs, breweries and shops.
Beer Day Britain is asking all beer lovers to join in by raising a glass of beer and saying ‘Cheers to Beer’ on June 15th at 7pm (19.00) and then posting a message and photo on social media with the hashtag #CheersToBeer.
Jane Peyton (award winning beer sommelier, drinks educator, author, events producer) is the instigator and driving force behind Beer Day Britain and she is also the project manager. Beer Day Britain is supported by all the major organisations in the beer industry including Britain’s Beer Alliance, Society of Independent Brewers, British Beer & Pub Association, and the Campaign for Real Ale.
