BBC 2, our 2.5% pale ale, has just won the coveted title, Champion Beer of Belfast. A panel of judges at the 14th Belfast Beer and Cider Festival voted for BBC2 over about 100 other real ales on offer at Ulster Hall, the festival venue. Head Brewer Sophie de Ronde said: “It’s great that such a low ABV beer has won yet another big festival. It just goes to show that flavour and beer quality doesn’t just come from alcohol.” Last year BBC2 won Beer of the Festival at Cambridge, which is the second largest outdoor festival in the country. The quaffable lunchtime BBC2 takes its name from Brentwood Brewing Company plus it belongs to the 2% ABV range. Organised by CAMRA Northern Ireland volunteers, Belfast Beer and Cider Festival 2013 runs until tomorrow.
